Virgin Atlantic (VS/VIR) has taken delivery of its first Airbus A330neo when A330-900 G-VJAZ was delivered to London Heathrow (LHR/EGLL)

The airline, which is set to join the SkyTeam Alliance in 2023, has purchased 13 of the type, six of which (including this one) have been purchased through leasing specialist Air Lease.

Configured in a three-class layout, the 262-seat A330-900 forms part of Virgin Atlantic’s fleet modernisation programme.

The A330-900 uses the Derby-made Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines and the wings are built at Airbus’ wing manufacturing facility in Broughton, North Wales.

As a demonstration, Virgin also carried out the delivery flight with 35% blend of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) but the aircraft is certified to use a 50% blend.
