Balearic Islands put back on UK amber list

Holiday

Ibiza, Mallorca and Menorca are being added back to the UK’s amber coronavirus travel list just two weeks after they were given the green light for holidays.

The popular Spanish Balearic Islands were given the green light on the 24th June but the UK government announced today that from Monday, 15th July at 04:00, they will revert back to amber throwing holidays into chaos as travellers cut holidays short to avoid a 10-day quarantine.

However, from Monday, passengers arriving into England who have had both vaccinations will not need to quarantine from amber list countries. Under 18s and those who haven’t had both jabs will still need to quarantine.

The move comes after COVID-19 cases in the Balearics almost doubled since the islands were added to the green list but is likely to cause further uncertainty for the travel industry which widely criticised a similar move when. Portugal was given the green light and just weeks later was moved back to amber.

In the same announcement the UK Government announced that Bulgaria & Hong Kong would be added to the green list whist Croatia and Taiwan go onto the green watch list.

Cuba, along with Indonesia, Myanmar and Sierra Leone are being upgraded to the red list.
