US Bombers bound for RAF Fairford

Another flight of the US Air Force’s B52 Heavy Bombers is currently en route to RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire according to Global Strike Command.

The first aircraft from the Bomber Taskforce mission will arrive from Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana later this evening and are understood to be B52-H’s 60-0024, 60-0025, 60-0028 and 61-0006.

Bomber Taskforce missions are designed to enable crews to maintain a high state of readiness and proficiency as well as validating the always-ready global strike capability of the United States Strategic Command and its commitment to NATO partners and allies.

The aircraft are all from the 2nd Bomb Wing based at Barksdale AFB and they are expected to train with participants from the Royal Air Force (RAF) and other NATO air forces from the region.

It is not known how long the Bomber Taskforce will be in the UK.
