The 1st October 2016 marks the start of a new route from Cardiff Airport (CWL/EGFF) as Flybe begin direct flights to the German capital, Berlin.

The first flight departs Cardiff at 15:00hrs today as BEE4597 to Berlin Tegel Airport (TXL/EDDT).

The route was originally scheduled to start on the 2nd November but due to high demand, Flybe decided to bring the start date forward.

Berlin is a popular winter destination thanks to its famous Christmas Markets including the World-famous Charlottenburg Castle Christmas Market which sees the castle and surrounding area bathed in special mood lighting for the 35 day event.

The city is also steeped in history and was once the front line of the Cold War which saw the infamous Berlin Wall built to separate East and West Berlin.

Cardiff Airports Managing Director Debra Barber said: “This fantastic new route by Flybe is another major step towards our vision of connecting capital cities. Our Welsh passengers can now touch down in Berlin for a cultural weekend of art, architecture, and vintage shopping”
