Eastern Airways (T3/EZE) are to take over the Cardiff to Anglesey Intra-Wales route “without disruption” according to Welsh Government Economy secretary Ken Skates.

The route was left without an operator following the collapse of “virtual airline” Citywing on Friday. The collapse was caused by the suspension of Van Air Europe, who operated the flights for Citywing, when they were suspended by the Civil Aviation Authority.

Ken Skates AM said “I am grateful to Eastern Airways, the Civil Aviation Authority, Cardiff and Anglesey airports and the RAF at Valley for their support and help in making sure this necessary transition between providers has happened so quickly”

The operation would take the total of Eastern Airways routes at Wales’ national airport to 3. Eastern already operate flights from Cardiff Airport to Newcastle and Aberdeen using BAe Jetstream 41 aircraft.

Formed at Humberside Airport in 1997, Eastern Airways operates domestic routes across the UK and international routes to France, Norway and Italy.
