Busiest summer for Luton Airport but Wizz Air UK drops routes

London Luton Airport (LTN/EGGW) has enjoyed its busiest summer ever with 5.3 million passengers passing through the airport in August alone.

The airport says that the most popular destinations included Malaga, Barcelona, Lisbon, Palma de Mallorca and Tel-Aviv.

Alberto Martin, CEO of LLA, said: “The summer period is always a busy time for the airport, and this year was no exception. Our new agreement with Abellio marks a step-change in rail connectivity between London and its fastest-growing airport, and will deliver the improved travel experience which our passengers deserve.”

Despite the bumper passenger numbers, a number of underused routes are being dropped by Wizz Air UK (W9/WUK) including Bari, Catania, Ljubljana, Tallinn and Turku.

All the routes end on various dates in October 2019.

Wizz Air UK is, however, adding two new daily routes to Moscow and St Petersburg in Russia.
