The Air Accident Investigations Branch (AAIB) has confirmed it is sending a team to the light aircraft crash near Belfast International Airport in Northern Ireland which killed two people.
Police confirmed the fatalities on Thursday evening in a statement saying “Police can confirm that two people have died following a light aircraft crash near Nutts Corner, Crumlin this afternoon, Thursday, 19 April.”
The plane is believed to have come down around 12:20 pm into a wooded area about 3 miles from Belfast Aldergrove (BFS/EGAA) airport although the aircraft is not believed to have flown from the airport.
A spokesperson for Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) confirmed that no patients were taken from the scene and the major incident was stood down at 12.49pm.
She said: “The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a call at 12.23pm this afternoon following reports that a light aircraft had come down near Nutts Corner.
“NIAS implemented its major incident protocols in response to this incident and one rapid response paramedic, three emergency ambulance crews and four officers were dispatched to the incident.
“The charity air ambulance was also tasked.”
