Virgin Atlantic (VS/VIR) has announced it is to launch flights to Sao Paulo in Brazil from Summer 2024 marking the airlines first move into South America.

The service from London Heathrow willl operate daily from the 13th may 2024 using a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner with 31 Upper Class, 35 Premium and 192 Economy seats.

Passengers using the service will also be able to connect to onward destinations in Brazil and across South America with Virgin Atlantic’s codeshare partner, LATAM.

Virgin Atlantic also expects the route to carry large amounts of cargo contributing to the annual £7.7 billion in trade between the UK and Brazil.

Juha Jarvinen, Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Atlantic, said: “Flying to Sao Paulo, Brazil represents so much more than just a new route. It’s the gateway to South America and signifies exciting new growth for Virgin Atlantic. After our plans to launch a route to Sao Paulo were scuppered by the pandemic, we’re so excited to be able to finally provide our customers with an opportunity to explore a fantastic new continent that is buzzing with adventure.”

The move comes in addition to the news that Dubai is returning to the Virgin Atlantic network from London Heathrow and a new Las Vegas flight from Manchester.
