Virgin Atlantic (VS/VIR) has cancelled its plans to start flights from Manchester to India, the first of which was due next week according to sources close to the situation.

The airline had announced flights to Mumbai and Delhi which were due to start on in January 2021.

The news comes just days after the airline launched its Manchester to Islamabad, Pakistan route as it returns to operations at Manchester Airport.

A spokesperson for Virgin Atlantic said “We are continuously reviewing our flying programme and in response to the ongoing impact of Covid-19 we have made the difficult decision to withdraw our Manchester to Delhi and Mumbai services which were due to launch in January. We remain committed to our Manchester home and have recently resumed operations to Barbados, introduced a new route to Islamabad and have further routes to the Caribbean and US commencing in the coming weeks.”

“For customers with travel booked on this route, we will be in touch to notify them of their options. Any customers who made their bookings through a third party or travel agent, should contact them directly.”
