Jet2 (LS/EXS) has announced that it will open a new UK base next summer at Luton Airport (LTN/EGGW) with flights to 17 destinations across Europe.

The new base means that UK holiday airline, which includes Jet2 Holidays, will once again be going head to head with easyJet and Ryanair which are already established at the Bedfordshire airport.

Jet2 says that the new base will create around 125 jobs for pilots, cabin crew and ground staff and is a major expansion of the airlines network in the South of England where it is also opening a base at Bournemouth.

Destinations from Luton will include Alicante, Reus, Girona, Antalya, Dalaman, Faro, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Heraklion, Ibiza, Lanzarote, Rhodes, Funchal, Palma, Tenerife, Verona and Zakynthos.

The base will be established with two Airbus A321neo aircraft and some routes will be operated by non-Luton based aircraft.
