Aer Lingus announces big increase in winter flights

Aer Lingus Winter Flights

Aer Lingus has unveiled what it says is its largest ever winter flights schedule, including 350 extra transatlantic flights where capacity will grow by 13pc. This is aided by the introduction of a new Airbus A330-300, which will be in operation for the full 2017/18 winter season.

This is aided by the introduction of a new Airbus A330-300, which will be in operation for the full 2017/18 winter season.

The schedule includes a new direct flight from Dublin to Miami. The route starts on 1st September and will operate three times a week.

Aer Lingus is also boosting its Dublin to Toronto capacity by 96pc, with four flights a week operated on a larger Airbus A330.

Washington flight frequency will increase to daily towards the end of the year- a 44% growth in seat availability.

Although Aer Lingus recently ended operations at Cardiff Airport, Flybe will be operating up to 18 flights a week from Cardiff Airport to Dublin this winter in a codeshare agreement with Aer Lingus. This gives Welsh passengers easy access to their network via Dublin.

The codeshare means passengers can enjoy a seamless transfer from Cardiff Airport to Aer Lingus destinations including Boston, Chicago, Hartford, Los Angeles, New York, Orlando, San Francisco, Toronto and Washington without having multiple tickets from different carriers.

Short-haul service increases include an additional peak morning flight from Dublin to London and the service to Bilbao will be carried over from the summer, it will operate three times weekly in November, December and March only.

Flights to Birmingham will move to an Airbus A320 offering 50,000 more seats and to Hamburg will double to 10 services per week as will those to Zurich.

“This Winter is our biggest yet with considerable expansion of our long-haul and European networks,” said Mike Rutter, its Chief Operating Officer.

“The increasing recognition that our Dublin Hub is the fastest, cheapest and least hassle way to visit North America is underpinned by a further 13pc increase in transatlantic seats from Dublin this winter,” he added.

Celebrating its announcement, Aer Lingus has launched a flash sale offering €50 off return trips to North America – if booked before midnight on August 15 on aerlingus.com.
