Its a day that many have feared for some time, the last remaining Avro Vulcan XH558 is being grounded and to be put on permanent museum display.

Before this however the Doncaster based aircraft is carrying out a farewell tour of the UK giving as many people as possible the chance to say goodbye.

Today marks the turn of Southern Britain and South Wales with Xh558 carrying out flypasts at both Cardiff Airport and MOD St Athan at 15:10 and 15:35 respecitvely.

The Vulcan to the Sky trust have made XH558 a popular attraction on the air display circuit with its enigmatic displays and it will certainly be missed on the calendar.

The Avro Vulcan was one of three so-called V-Bombers built for the RAF as nuclear bombers. The Vulcan operated with the RAF until 1993 and saw active service in the Falklands on the infamous “Black Buck” raid.

The trust plans two more flights in October before its final retirement.
