UK sees busiest weekend of flying with Bank Holiday getaways

This weekend is expected to be the busiest day of 2024 for passengers jetting off across Europe and the wider world from the UK with over 12,000 flights scheduled to depart UK airports over the weekend

According to data from aviation analytics firm Cirium, Friday 23rd August will see up to 2.2 million passengers fly off for the Bank Holiday weekend with 3,243 departures scheduled.

The number of flights was 4% higher than the same Bank Holiday weekend last year, showing the continued growth in the commercial air travel sector and also post-pandemic recovery with the number of flights at almost 94% of the level in 2019.

London Heathrow (LHR/EGLL), the UK’s busiest airport, will see the highest number of departures with London Gatwick (LGW/EGKK), Manchester (MAN/EGCC), Stansted (STN/EGSS) and Edinburgh (EDI/EGPH following close behind.

Popular destinations this weekend include Dublin, Amsterdam, Mallorca, Alicante and Malaga with low-cost airline easyJet (U2?EZY) beating British Airways (BA/BAW), Jet2 (LS/EXS) and Ryanair (FR/RYR) for the number flights.
