Play to launch run of flights to Keflavik from Cardiff Airport

Icelandic low-cost carrier Play will launch a limited flight run between Keflavik, Iceland and Cardiff Airport (CWL/EGFF) in October and November this year.

The twice-weekly flight will operate for 6 weeks on Mondays and Fridays between 10th October & 20th November and is a welcome lifeline for the struggling Welsh Government-owned airport, albeit short-lived.

Play is launching the flights to coincide with the UEFA Nations League matches between Iceland and Wales.

For outgoing passengers, there is the opportunity to connect to Play’s transatlantic destinations including New York Stewart, Boston, Baltimore/Washington, and Washington Dulles and Toronto, Canada.

Einar Örn Ólafsson, Play´s CEO said: “I am confident that our Cardiff route will be well received. We boast a world-class on-time performance of 83% in 2023, the youngest aircraft fleet in Europe, and our cabin crew was voted the best by the readers of USA Today 10Best. Those who choose to fly with us will have a safe, reliable, and enjoyable travel experience to their destination”
