The Royal Air Force has confirmed that Hawk T2 aircraft from RAF Valley will operate at Llanbedr Airfield between the 7th and 11th August.

The aircraft, from RAF Valley’s 4(R) Squadron, will operate from Llanbedr to avoid noise over the National Eisteddfod of Wales which is being held on Anglesey.

A spokesperson for the RAF said that it “recognises that its activity could cause some noise during the Eisteddfod.” adding “This is why RAF Valley is implementing a number of changes to its operations over the period of the event to minimise disruption,”

Group Captain Nick Tucker-Lowe, RAF Valley Station Commander,  said: “It is vital that we continue our mission to train front line fighter pilots, and by training at Llanbedr we can do this and support the Eisteddfod.”

The National Eisteddfod of Wales is a Welsh festival of literature, music and performance which alternates between North and South Wales. For 2017 it is being held in Bodedern on Anglesey, (Ynys Mon). Last years event was held in Abergavenny in Monmouthshire.

4(R) Squadron at RAF Valley trains fast RAF jet fighter pilots using the BAe Systems Hawk T2 aircraft.
