Eastern Airways (T3/EZE) is launching routes to Gibraltar from Birmingham and Southampton from May.
The service will initially operate twice-weekly on Mondays and Fridays and will be the first time the British region will have a direct flight to the south coast of the UK.
Birmingham hasn’t seen a link to Gibraltar since Monarch collapsed.
Eastern Airways General Manager said the new route marked a “major milestone” for the airline as the first direct flights to the Mediterranean by Eastern.
He added: “with easy access to the south coast of Spain also a benefit, working together with [Her Majesties] Government has enabled this to be the first service to be announced supporting UK regional airports and their role in direct UK and European Connectivity.”
It is expected that the route will be operated by a 76 seat Embraer E170.
