The Department for Transport (DfT) is reimposing the 100ml liquid limit at the six UK airports where it had been lifted in what it described as temporary measure.
As of 0001 on Sunday 9th June 2024 travellers using Leeds Bradford, London City, Aberdeen, Southend, Newcastle and Teesside airports, where the restrictions had been lifted, will have to adhere to the old 100ml liquid rule once again.
The six airports were the first to put in place Next Generation Security Checkpoints (NGSC) but early findings have prompted to the DfT to reintroduce the old measures.
In a statement the DfT said: “From 0001 on Sunday 9th June 2024, 100ml restrictions on liquids will temporarily be reintroduced for passengers travelling from six regional airports where Next Generation Security Checkpoints (NGSC) are in full operation.
“This temporary move is to enable further improvements to be made to the new checkpoint systems and will only affect a small number of passengers. For most passengers, security measures will remain unchanged.
“Passengers should continue to check security requirements with their departure airport before travelling.”
The DfT added that it was not in response to any specific threat.
