Condor selects Welsh wings for single-aisle fleet renewal

German carrier Condor Airline Condor Flugdienst GmbH has committed to 41 A320neo family aircraft as it seeks to modernise its single-aisle fleet in addition to selecting the A330neo to modernise its long-haul fleet.

Both types give a boost to Airbus’ facility in Broughton, North Wales where the wings for all Airbus A3XX airlines are made.

Condor says that the A330neo fleet renewal will be complete by 2024 and then it will begin taking delivery of single-aisle airliners which is a mixture of the A320neo and A321neo.

Ralf Teckentrup, CEO of Condor said: “With our new A320neo and A321neo aircraft, we are consistently developing our fleet and ourselves as a company, and also taking care of our own aspiration to enable responsible and at the same time comfortable travel with significantly reduced CO2 emissions, significantly lower fuel consumption and less noise,”

Christian Scherer, Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Airbus International added: “Following Condor’s earlier decision to order the A330neo for its long-haul network, we are double grateful the airline has now also selected the Airbus A320neo Family to modernise its single-aisle-fleet following a thorough evaluation process. We are proud of such a strong vote of confidence and welcome Condor as a future all-Airbus operator,”

The news will also be welcomed by Airbus who had an unusually slow Farnborough International Airshow and came bottom of the top four manufacturers for orders.
