British Airways (BA/BAW) has been hit by another IT outage which is stopping pilots from being able to access and file flight plans digitally resulting in delays and cancellations from London Heathrow Airport.
The system outage is also affecting other IAG airlines using Terminal 5 at Heathrow including Iberia.
Many flights due to leave London have had delays of 1-2 hours and the inbound flow of flights has also been restricted leading to delays at other European airports on flights to the UK.
One twitter user posted a video of passengers forced to wait on the tarmac at Verona airport.
.@British_Airways Absolute shambles three flights cancelled this month and now being made to stand on the tarmac in a very cold Verona waiting for an already delayed flight. What has happened to the nations airline? Not fit for purpose pic.twitter.com/qtnjG5UqS6

A spokesperson for British Airways said on twitter that “Our flights are currently operating, but are experiencing delays as our teams work to resolve a technical issue affecting some of our systems.”
Heathrow Airport said: “We are aware of a technical issue that British Airways are investigating and we will be working with them to provide updates to passengers as soon as they are available. Heathrow’s systems are operating as normal.”
This is now the third high profile IT outage that British Airways has suffered recently after it was one of many companies caught in a global outage caused by a Windows update earlier this year and in 2023, an IT outage of British Airways systems caused over 200 flights to be cancelled.
