British Airways (BA/BAW) has announced that it will start a direct Cornwall Newquay (NQY/EGHQ) to London Heathrow (LHR/EGLL) flight from 2nd July 2020.
The flight will operate five times per week throughout the summer season on Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The British Airways service replaces the PSO (Public Service Obligation) route operated by struggling regional airline Flybe who are abandoning the route from the end of March in favour of service to London Gatwick (LGW/EGKK).
Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Director of Network and Alliances said: “We know that customers enjoy exploring the UK as much as they do going further afield, and Newquay has so much to offer, especially in the summer months.”
Not only will the route offer easy access to Cornwall from South East but will open up new travel options flying from Newquay for travellers from Cornwall.
Interim Airport Director of Cornwall Airport Newquay, Richard Thomasson, said: “We are delighted British Airways will be flying to Cornwall this summer and to be able to continue to offer this vital link between Cornwall and Heathrow. With such a major global carrier we will be able to offer our passengers one-stop access to the world, while worldwide investors and tourists will benefit from an easier connection to our stunning county.”
The flight will be Airbus A319 which can seat up to 144 passengers, a significant capacity increase on Flybe’s service.
