Two passers-by who saved the lives of three people when their plane crashed on the A40 near Abergavenny have been given an award for outstanding bravery at this year’s Pride of Britain Awards.
Daniel Nicholson and Joel Snarr were among the first on the scene after a single-engine Cirrus SR22 (2-RORO) crashed onto the busy dual carriageway after suffering engine failure.
Despite the post-impact fire, Daniel rushed to the aircraft and after finally making a big enough hole in the windscreen helped brother and sister Jack Moore and Billie Manley from the burning aircraft assisted by Mr Snarr.
Former soldier Joel then went on to pull the pilot, Stuart Moore, from the aircraft.
Thanks to their efforts the three people from the aircraft suffered only minor injuries.
Daniel accepted the awards on behalf of himself and Joel who couldn’t attend the event for personal reasons.
During the award, Daniel was reunited with Jack and Billie in an emotional personal thank you.
Football stars Gareth Southgate, Phil Neville, Ryan Giggs and Harry Kane presented the awards.
