Key UK airports including London Gatwick (LGW/EGLL) and Leeds Bradford (LBA/EGNM) are among the 314 European airports that have disclosed their roadmaps to Net-Zero by 2026 under the Airports Council International (ACI) Europe net-aero resolution.

Airports making up the 314 disclosed come from 36 countries and include roadmaps that are even more ambitious than 2050 with 122 of them aiming for net-zero by 2030.

Other UK airports that have disclosed include Ports of Jersey, which manages Channel Islands Airports, London Heathrow (LHR/EGLL), London City Airport (LCY/EGLC), Newcastle (NCL/EGNT), Birmingham (BHX/EGBB), Farnborough (FAB/EGLF) and AGS Airports – which manages Glasgow, Southampton and Aberdeen.

Olivier Jankovec, Director General of ACI EUROPE said: “Reaffirming our commitment to net zero and making tangible progress towards delivery is more important than ever — considering the latest scientific warnings over climate change and the push back against climate action in some quarters. Europe’s airports are very clear that this is a non‑negotiable imperative that commands our license not just to grow but to keep operating. In all of that, transparency is key — and this growing body of public roadmaps demonstrates our sector’s readiness to act and be held accountable.”

The ACI Europe net-zero resolution was first passed in 2019 and is reviewed on an annual basis and new airports sign up to the resolution every year. 2023 saw the change that required airports to disclose their roadmaps to net-zero.
