In a release that somewhat puts into context the recent surge in air travel that has led to scenes of queues and cancellations across the UK, Ryanair’s latest figures show it carried 13.6 million more people in May this year, than it did last year.

Massive rises arent unexpected, after all, May 2021 was at the height of travel restrictions and in fact, Ryanair only carried 1.8 million passengers that month but post-pandemic, the return of air travel has caught many airlines and airports off guard, certainly with staffing levels.

The bounceback is good news for Ryanair though. They carried 15.4 million passengers in May 2022 with the load factor, a crucial indicator for low-cost airlines, was up to 92%.

Ryanair was one of the quickest airlines to react to the return of air travel and its cash-rich business model and own fleet has made it very flexible in the recent period of almost daily changes to the market.

The result can be seen in Ryanair’s rolling annual figures putting it 310% higher than the same period last year with 123.9 million passengers carried compared to just 30.2 million in the previous 12 months.,
