London Luton Airport (LTN/EGNT) has said that it managed to provide a “smooth travel experience” for customers during a half-term period which saw over 1.2 million passengers using the terminal.
Luton Airport says that despite the sudden increase, average waiting times for security were around 10 minutes and 99% of its flights operated as scheduled.
This is in stark contrast to other UK airports such as Bristol, Gatwick, Birmingham, Stansted and Manchester which saw massive queues and rafts of delays and cancelled flights over the week-long getaway.
Alberto Martin, chief executive of London Luton Airport, said: “The half-term holiday provided further evidence of the continued surge in demand for air travel, and I’m delighted that LLA was able to step up in what has been a difficult period for our industry.
“The hard work and commitment of our frontline teams was key to this success, as it has been all year, and it has been fantastic to receive such positive feedback from our customers. LLA has achieved an average wait time for security of less than 10 minutes year to date, and with a busy summer ahead of us, we will be working hard to maintain a high level of operational and customer service excellence.”
The way the airport has dealt with the half-term period has provided confidence as it approaches the summer getaway when around 5 million people are expected to pass through the airport.
