Former Cardiff councillor and UKIP candidate Mohammed Sarul Islam has called on the Welsh Government to rename Cardiff Airport to “Princess Diana International Airport”.
Mr Sarul Islam has started a Welsh Assembly petition calling for the change. The Assembly petitions committee requires 10 signatures to be considered in the Assembly, So far 16 people have signed it, including 1 from the United States.
He is currently the president of the Commonwealth Business and Investment Council for Wales and claims “rebranding the airport with such a well-known name would attract international customers”.
Previous calls to rename the airport have included “Dylan Thomas International” and “Sir Tom Jones International”.
A spokesperson for Cardiff Airport said “We have no plans to change our name”.
