A Delta Airlines jet has crashed while landing at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport.

There were 80 people onboard the aircraft, 74 passengers and 4 crew, and a statement from Toronto Airport said all passengers and crew had been accounted for.

Three people have been critically injured.

Images show the jet, reportedly a CRJ900 Regional Jet, upside down on the runway.

The airport was experiencing snow storm conditions at the time of the accident.

According to Flightradar24 the aircraft was operating Flight DAL4819 from Minneapolis.

Damage to the aircraft shows the right wing sheered off from the fuselage along with the tail section but the main fuselage remained intact despite turning upside down.

A statement from the Airport fire service said that the runway was dry when flight 4819 landed and there were no cross winds but ATC audio recorded the pilots of the CRJ were told wind 27 (knots) gusting 33.

The flight was a Delta Connection service operated by Endeavour Air who are based in Minneapolis.

The Bombardier CRJ900 was 16 years old.

The hearts of the entire global Delta family are with those affected by today’s incident at Toronto-Pearson International Airport,” said Delta CEO Ed Bastian. “I want to express my thanks to the many Delta and Endeavor team members and the first responders on site. We are working to confirm the details and will share the most current information on news.delta.com  as soon as it becomes available.  In the meantime, please take care and stay safe.”

Before touchdown, the pilots were warned by ATC that there maybe a “slight bump” as they were landing straight after another aircraft.

Video filmed from an aircraft waiting to depart shows the CRJ appear to land hard on it’s right main landing gear.
