All the information you need about Bristol Airport BRS/EGGD

Bristol Airport (IATA: BRS/ICAO: EGGD) is located 8 miles southwest of Bristol City Centre and is the South West’s largest regional airport by passenger numbers.

It is a hub for low-cost airlines Easyjet and Ryanair as well as a busy base for Tui and Thomas Cook.

As a result of being a base for low-cost carriers it has a lot of European destinations as well as some long-haul flights, particularly with Tui, although due to its short runway, some of Tui’s long haul flights operate via Manchester.

Bristol Airport, where it is today, can trace its history back to 1940 when a landing strip was built at Lulsgate Bottom for the RAF’s Elementary Flying School. Post war the airfield became home to a gliding club until 1955 when it was sold Bristol Corporation and developed as a commercial airport. Bristol Lulsgate Airport was officially opened in 1957 by the Duchess of Kent.

Bristol Airport today is owned by the Ontario Teacher’s Pension Plan and is undergoing significant development to increase terminal capacity and facilities such as car parking and hotel accommodation.
