Cardiff Airport (IATA: CWL/ICAO: EGFF) is located about 12 miles west of Cardiff City Centre and is the only commercial airport in Wales.
It is a base for Flybe and Tui but also sees flights from other airlines including Thomas Cook, Ryanair, Vueling.
With the exception of Flybe, Cardiff Airport predominantly hosts holiday flights to destinations such as Spain, Greece and other European destinations.
Cardiff Airport initially began life at RAF Pengam Moors when Aer Lingus started commercial flights to Dublin. In 1954, flights were transferred to RAF Rhoose which became Glamorgan (Rhoose) Airport. Over the years the airport grew steadily with its current terminal having its roots in the late 1960’s.
It is also home to British Airways Maintenance Cardiff and regularly sees Boeing 747 and Boeing 777 aircraft using its runway.
Cardiff Airport today is owned by the Welsh Government who purchased the airport in 2013. It is currently setting out its draft masterplan for its vision for the future.
