Only a few weeks ago developers had planning permission approved to build 315 homes on the site of the airfield but Hangar 3 was due to remain and the owners of the airfield were told to make repairs to the hangar as part of the planning approval.
The blaze has also engulfed the Hangar 3 Restaurant & Cafe.
