A Sukhoi Superjet 100 crashed near Moscow, Russia yesterday during a post-maintenance test flight killing all onboard.
The aircraft, which belonged to Gazpromavia, had been undergoing maintenance at the Lukhovitsy aviation plant and was on a test flight to Vunkovo airport when it came down in woods near Kolomensky District shortly after take-off.
Questions hang over the safety of Russian aircraft with sanctions on Russia following its invasion of Ukraine making the supply of quality parts a significant issue.
In particular, no new parts for Sukhoi Superjets that are imported have been available since 2022.
229 Superjet’s have been built of which five have been involved in significant incidents, most notably at Moscow Sheremetyevo in 2019 which cost the lives of 41 people and a demonstration flight which killed 45 people when a Superjet flew into a mountain in Indonesia.
