Just Stop Oil activists fail to disrupt air travel – again

Just Stop Oil activist on holiday flight

Despite several attempts to disrupt air travel this summer, the latest being at London Heathrow today, Just Stop Oil activists have failed to cause even minimal disruption.

The domestic activist group, run by convicted criminal Roger Hallam, promised a summer of misery for Air travellers as it planned major disruption at UK airports but has only failed to deliver its promises.

The story so far:

  • Attempt to block runaway at Heathrow – arrested outside perimeter fence and remanded in custody.
  • Attempt to block departure gates at Gatwick – passengers merely stepped over them, activists were arrested and remanded in custody.
  • Attempt to cause terminal chaos by spraying orange paint in the terminal at Heathrow – made a bit of a mess on the floor in a small area, remanded in custody.
  • Attempt to block departure gates at Heathrow – removed in minutes and in police custody.

It’s clear that this group, which is determined to target the British public rather than oil giants or polluters, has vastly underestimated what it means to interfere with national infrastructure and the police have been one step ahead at every stage.

Before this latest “campaign” the police made multiple arrests for conspiracy to disrupt national infrastructure and obtained phones and laptops, which contained plans for the group.
