Qatar has converted a tentative order for A320neo’s into a firm order for 50 Airbus A321neo aircraft for state airline Qatar Airways.
The Airline, which starts flights from Cardiff Airport to Doha on 1st May 2018, chose to upgrade to the largest of the A32X family to give it maximum flexibility.
The deal is worth an extra $930m to Airbus (on top of the previous A320neo order) and brings more job security in North Wales as the wings for the Airbus A321neo are made at the Airbus site at Broughton.
The new deal replaces the A320neo order (30 aircraft) and sees the airline switch to the CFM Leap engines built by the French-American engine venture of Safran and GE.
