VE Day Celebrations get underway with RAF Flypasts

The start of the VE Day celebrations began this morning with a series of flypasts by the Royal Air Force around the UK.

In London, the RAF Red Arrows carried out a flypast over Westminster with their famous 9 red jets overflying the capital.

The flypast was caught on camera and posted to social media by The Army in London.

In addition to the Red Arrows flypast, RAF Typhoons overflew the devolved capitals of Cardiff, Edinburgh and Belfast as the United Kingdom as a whole comes together to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe.

Lisa Ward captured the Typhoon flypast over Cardiff.

The day of celebrations was badly needed by a country rocked by the Coronavirus Pandemic but because of the current restrictions, not much information about the flypasts was given ahead of today to prevent crowds gathering.

But the sight of the Red Arrows over London never fails to lift the mood, let the party begin.
