US President Joe Biden has confirmed that the US is to allow US made Lockheed Martin F16 Fighting Falcon jets to be given to Ukraine as well as training Ukrainian pilots to fly them.

President Biden made the announcement at the G7 Summit in Hiroshima, Japan as world leaders meet to discuss trade and the ongoing Russian aggression in Ukraine.

The move was welcomed by Ukraine along with the UK, Netherlands, Belgium and Denmark.

President Biden don’t confirm which F16 models or how many western counties would send but they are expected to be older F16 C models which the US will replace with new generation fighters.

In a statement the US said it would “support a joint effort with our allies and partners to train Ukrainian pilots on fourth-generation fighter aircraft, including F-16s, to further strengthen and improve the capabilities of the Ukrainian Air Force”

Ukraine President Zelensky, who is at the G7 summit called it an historic decision.
