Ryanair pilots to strike on 12th July

Ryanair Pilots based in  Ireland have voted to stage a 24-hour walkout on the 12th July.

The industrial action will affect hundreds of flights in and out of Ryanair’s primary base at Dublin as well as Cork and Shannon.

The Irish Airline Pilots’ Association balloted members over a lack of an agreement on how Ryanair deals with transfers between bases. Over 99% of those balloted voted in favour of the strike.

The Union claims its discussions were met with threats to “move Dublin based aircraft and pilots to other bases and cut promotion opportunities”.

The strike is due to begin at 01:00hrs on the 12th July and the Union says it will notify the airline of additional strike days in due course.

Ryanair is Europe’s largest low-cost airline carrying 128m passengers in 2017. The strike action is likely to have a knock-on effect across the UK & Europe as many Dublin based aircraft operate flights from other airports.

Ryanair has not commented on the industrial action.
