Newcastle Airport closed after display jet burst a tyre on landing

Newcastle Airport (NCL/EGNT) has been closed after a BAC Strikemaster burst a tyre on landing.

The Cold War jet has been displaying at the Sunderland Airshow and was landing after completing its sortie.

Ther aircraft, Strikemaster 417, is operated by North Wales Military Aircraft Services Ltd.

The aren’t believed to be any injuries and the only damage to the aircraft is the tyre itself.

Aircraft due to land at Newcastle are being diverted to nearby airports including Leeds Bradford.

The airport reported at 14:15 that the Runway has now reopened after the aircraft was removed.
