Ohio based shared ownership specialist Netjets has given the AS2 Supersonic Business Jet a boost by securing the purchase rights for 20.

The deal means that Aerion has orders worth over USD$10 billion ahead of production which is planned to begin in 2023 with entry into service expected in 2025.

The Aerion AS2 will be capable of flying in excess of 1,000mph, or 150% faster than current business jets.

Cruising at up to Mach 1.4, the aircraft will have a supersonic range of 4,200nm powered by revolutionary GE engines carrying 8 to 10 passengers.

It will operate in what it calls a “Boomless Cruise” by taking advantage of an atmospheric phenomenology called Mach Cut Off which bounces the sonic book of warmer off denser warmer air layers.

President & CEO of Aerion, Tom Vice, said, “Our strategy is to connect the very best partners in the world within a new mobility ecosystem optimized for speed and founded on sustainability. In NetJets and FlightSafety International, we have two such partners, both globally recognized leaders in their fields who share our passion for a new era of mobility that is both fast and at the same time kind to our planet.”
