London Luton Airport (LTN/EGGW) has reported a drop in passengers numbers of 66% in September 2020 compared to the previous year.

The drop is largely down to the travel restrictions in place to tackle the spread of coronavirus and the impact it is having on passenger confidence.

The airport says is has taken steps to ensure that the airport remains safe and secure for both staff and passengers including a range of new measures such as the installation of protective screens, hand sanitiser stations and the requirement to wear face coverings inside the terminal.

Alberto Martin, CEO of LLA, said: “I am immensely proud of all the staff at LLA for continuing to deliver a high level of customer care and service, even during these challenging times.

“However, although we saw some recovery in passenger numbers during the summer months it has been short-lived, with numbers beginning to tumble once again. I welcome the formation of the Government’s new travel taskforce, but urge them to work closely with industry to quickly and safely remove the need for self-isolation with testing.”

September 2020 saw 575,000 passenger use London Luton Airport.
