Flybe have today started the Cardiff Airport (EGFF/CWL) to London City (EGLC/LCY) route which will operate until October 21st.
The first flight, operated by a Flybe Bombardier Dash-8 Aircraft (G-PRPB) left Cardiff Airport this morning, touching down in London just over an hour later.
Flybe stepped in to operate the flights when Network Rail announced that the Severn Rail tunnel would need to be closed for electrification work. The closure runs from today and will last for 6 weeks.
The route was originally planned to be operated by VLM Airlines on behalf of Flybe but VLM entered bankruptcy shortly after the announcement forcing Flybe to operate the route themselves.
The flight, which takes an average of 1hr 15mins, beats the train by over 2 hours during engineering work and is available from just £34.99.
London City airport is located to the east of central London which is accessible by DLR in around 10 mins from the airport. Canary Wharf is on the doorstep making it a great opportunity for the financial sector.
