Scottish Airline Loganair (LM/LOG) has said it is taking over three key routes from Aberdeen Airport (ABZ/EGPD) that were run by FlyBMI which collapsed yesterday.

Lognair will take over the routes to Bristol Airport (BRS/EGGD), Oslo (OSL/ENGM) and Ebsjerg (EBJ/EKEB).

FlyBMI, also known as BMI Regional, entered administration yesterday and ceased all operations after failing to secure further cash investment.

Loganair, which is also owned by Airline Investments Ltd, continues to flourish since ending its partnership with Flybe.

Starting on the 4th March, Loganair will start covering the 3 routes with a 49-seat Embraer 145 aircraft.

Jonathan Hinkles, Loganair’s managing director said: “It’s always really sad to see an airline go out of business, and our thoughts are with all those affected – particularly staff members.   We’re working on employment opportunities for pilots, cabin crew and engineering support staff to strengthen the Loganair team.

“There is no doubt that trading is tough, but Loganair is – we believe – in the strongest position of any UK regional airline.  We’ve done a lot of work over the last two years to secure our future as an independent regional airline, and despite the challenges posed by fuel and carbon costs and Brexit, we are strongly placed to take up new opportunities as they arise

“Our three new routes from Aberdeen complement our existing activity across a distinct geographical area, acting as a logical fit with our network – while also markedly increasing the airline’s presence in Aberdeen.”

Loganair will provide a weekday service between Aberdeen and Esbjerg as well as six flights per week to Oslo. Both of these will be new destinations for Loganair.

Bristol Airport will see flights from Aberdeen on Monday to Friday along with two Southbound flights on a Sunday.
