It’s been a bumper order day for Airbus with two Asian carriers placing A350 orders totalling 54 aircraft
Korean Air was first to pull the trigger with an order for 33 A350s split between 27 -100 models and six -900 models for its long haul needs as it prepares to fully merge Asiana into its operation.
This deal was closely followed the announcement that Japan Airlines had placed an order for 21 of the wide-body jets, specifically the -900 variant as it looks to grow its Airbus fleet.
Japan Airlines also placed its first single-aisle order with Airbus committing to 11 A321neos.
The order continues a growing Airbus dominance in a region traditionally loyal to rival Boeing but with well-placed products and Boeing’s very public issues this is being turned around by the European airframer.
All this is also great news for the UK to with the wings for both the A350 and A321 being made in Broughton North Wales as well as the Trent XWB engines used on the A350 being designed and made in Derby.
