India’s Spicejet targeting daily London flights with Slot acquisition

Spicejet

Indian low-cost airline Spicejet (SG/SEJ) has confirmed it has a acquired a daily slot pair for London Heathrow (LHR/EGLL) from 1st September 2020.

The slots were awarded in what is a “bubble” arrangement between the UK and India and gives Spicejet the opportunity to operate a a flight arriving into London at 15:30 and departing at 17:30.

Spicejet chairman Ajay Singh made the announcement saying “I am pleased and excited to share that SpiceJet has secured slots at London Heathrow Airport to operate flights effective September 1, 2020”

Spicejet’s main hub is Indira Gandhi International Airportin Delhi and it is likely that any flight will be from there.

The airline will also likely have to lease an aircraft as their current fleet consists of Boeing 737 and Dash8 Aircraft. Although, there is suddenly a large amount of wide-body aircraft on the market!

In June of this year, the airline announced that it had been awarded designated carrier status to the US and the UK for India.

The slots are currently only valid until 23rd October but talks are already underway to acquire winter slots.
