Aeros Flight Training have named the pilot involved in last weeks fatal accident in Worcestershire.

John Smith (52) is described by Aeros as “highly experienced, very popular with both his colleagues and his students” and was “enthusiastic”.

The flight training school went on to say that Mr Smith had joined them as a flight instructor at Wellesbourne Airfield before quickly working his way up to a senior flight instructor.

The student, 24-year-old  Ahmed Abdullah from Kuwait, was studying towards his commercial pilot’s licence.

Both men were killed when their Piper PA28 came down near Bredon Hill in Worcestershire. The cause of the accident is being investigated by the Air Accident Investigations Branch (AAIB).

An inquest into the deaths has been opened at Worcestershire Coroner’s Court.

The family of Mr Smith have asked for privacy at this time.
