The first Airbus A220 built at the European Airframers Mobile, Alabama assembly line has completed its test flight.

The first aircraft is destined for Delta Airlines and is the first to roll off the brand new assembly line which was only recently officially opened.

Like the A320 assembly lines, parts for the aircraft arrive from various sites around the world including the UK & China before being assembled in the Mobile site.

Airbus said the A220-300 took off from the Mobile Aeroplex and performed its test sequences before landed safely back at Mobile at 1:44 pm (local time).

U.S. A220 production facility

As the A220 production line has only recently opened the first U.S.-built examples of the type have been assembled in an existing Final Assembly Line hangar for U.S.-built A320 Family aircraft, and in newly-constructed support hangars.

The A220 family started life as the Bombardier C-Series jet and became a joint project between Bombardier and Airbus but Airbus took full control of the project in February 2020 as Bombardier sought to exit the commercial aircraft market.
