Brazillian airframer Embraer has come out on top of the sales charts at the Farnborough International Airshow (FIA22) with total orders and commitments reaching 280.
While most of Embraer’s orders were for the much vaunted single-aisle E195-E2, Embraer also did well with the older E175 and its future eVTOL aircraft which scored a letter of intent (LoI) for 150 from EVE.
Boeing came in second in the sales charts securing orders or commitments for 245 aircraft, including an order from Delta Airlines for 130 737 Max 10 aircraft and 20 737 Max 8’s for ANA on the first day.
Qatar Airways also firmed up an order for 25 Max 10s as the gulf carrier moves away from Airbus in its single-aisle fleet.
Leasing specialist AerCap also gave Boeing a boost on the 787 production line with an additional commitment to 9 Boeing 787-9 airliners.
ATR came third out of the top four manufacturers securing orders for 58 aircraft including ATR 42-600 and ATR 72-600. Japanese airline Feel Air was responsible for 36 of those regional turboprops as it looks to expand its footprint in Japan.
Dublin-based leasing specialist Abelo was responsible for the other 20 aircraft which included 10 ATR42-600S aircraft, a short take-off and landing variant.
Unusually bottoming the chart is the European aerospace giant Airbus which secured just 29 new orders mainly in the form of A220s from Delta Airlines.
Deals had been expected for Airbus from some India but this didn’t materialise with some analysts suggesting that airlines in the region are holding off and monitoring delivery slots in the hope of obtaining more favourable pricing.
One highlight for Airbus was easyJet reaffirming an order for 56 Airbus A320neo family aircraft and converting some A320s to A321s in the process, although this is not a new deal.
Overall the show was relatively quiet for Airbus and falls well short of previous shows but the mood in Airbus was buoyant with it being made clear that Airbus was still very actively taking orders in less public ways.
Boeing however will also be please with their result over their European rivals given the events of recent years and the delays to other 737 Max, 787 and 777X programs.
