Farnborough Airport (FAB/EGLF) has officially unveiled its 17,000sq ft Domus III hangar facility offering state-of-the-art facilities with sustainability built in.
The new facility is part of a £55m investment in infrastructure by the airport which will create jobs in the local area and generate growth.
Domus III is a 300m long four-bay hangar capable of accommodating large private jets such as the Global 7500 and next-generation jets such as the Falcon 10X. Its construction also increases apron space at the airport, improving the screening and parking facilities.
Simon Geere, CEO at Farnborough Airport, commented: “Domus III represents a monumental leap forward in aviation hangar technology, setting new standards in the industry with a state-of-the-art facility that not only cements Farnborough Airport’s position as London and the South East’s premier hub for air connectivity, but also reflects our commitment to drive environmental performance across every part of our business. It is an incredibly proud moment for us and marks an extraordinary milestone in the history of the Airport and the local area. We eagerly anticipate the positive impact it will have on attracting increased economic activity to the region.”
Sustainability features of Domus III include a fully intelligent lighting system, which incorporates daylight dimming to ensure the Airport makes the most and best efficient use of electricity on site. Natural light is also optimised in the hangar with the help of translucent automated doors that stretch the entire length of the building.
The large door also provides easy access and is designed to improve aircraft manoeuvrability which helps to mitigate unnecessary emissions from aircraft.
The project was delivered on time and on budget.
