British Airways (BA/BAW) are suspending flight operations from London Gatwick (LGW/EGKK) from 31st March.

Crews that were due to operate flights from London Gatwick over the next few weeks have now had their rosters changed to standby.

The move comes as British Airways, like all airlines, face tougher travel restrictions as a result of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic.

A spokesperson for British Airways said “Due to the considerable restrictions and challenging market environment, like many other airlines, we will temporarily suspend our flying schedule at Gatwick.

“We are contacting affected customers to discuss their options.”

British Airways has already grounded large swathes of its fleet which have been parked at Heathrow, Gatwick, Bournemouth, Glasgow and Cardiff.

Cabin Crew Unions are currently locked in talks with the airline on the future of jobs after members were issued with notices of redundancy.

Flight Crew have already agreed to take 2-weeks unpaid leave in April and again in May but Cabin Crew have not agreed to any deal as yet.

Although a large number of flights have been cancelled by the airline, this will be the first time the airline has suspended all operations from one of its major UK bases.

The aircraft will still be maintained at Gatwick Airport ready to return to service when required to do so.
