Thousands of British Airways Cabin Crew, Ground Staff, Engineers and Pilots are finding out today whether they still have a job with British Airways or are one of the thousands being sacked by the airline.
British Airways is looking to shed around 12,000 members of its 43,000 strong workforce as it deals with the fallout from the Coronavirius Pandemic.
Crew members had hoped for a deal that would limit the number of job losses but the biggest union, Unite was unable to achieve this and claimed BA was bit interested in any of their alternative ideas.
Members of staff that do retain their jobs will be forced to sign new contracts which includes a 20% pay cut and have to take at least one months unpaid leave
The airlines plans have been dubbed “fire and rehire” and have brought anger from unions and MPs who have asked the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to undertake a review of British Airways’ Heathrow slots.
The airline says that around 6000 people have opted for voluntary redundancy.
Some member of British Airways’ legacy worldwide and euro fleet cabin crew will see lose up to 50% of their take home pay in real terms.
