A British Airways 747 Jumbo Jet has been flown into Cardiff Airport this morning on just 3 engines after suffering an engine problem on an earlier flight.

It was no emergency, however, the Boeing 747-400 G-CIVM (not pictured) arrived at British Airways Maintenance Cardiff (BAMC) which is located at Cardiff Airport earlier today after flying from Phoenix, Arizona via Bermuda.

The aircraft suffered an engine failure on takeoff from Phoenix on 6th December resulting in the pilots returning to the airport for a safe emergency landing.

The decision was taken to ferry the aircraft back the to the UK on 3 engines, a perfectly safe procedure, in order to have the engine replaced at the Cardiff facility which maintains British Airways‘ long-haul fleet of 747, 777 and 787 aircraft. There were, of course, no passengers onboard.

The exact cause of the engine failure is unknown and the Rolls-Royce RB211 engine will now be examined by engine specialists in order to determine the case.
