Canadian airframer Bombardier has completed its departure from the commercial aircraft market following the sale of its CRJ series to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd for $550m (£439m).
Bombardier has built commercial airlines for 3 decades and has brought aircraft including the Dash 8, C-Series and CRJ models.
The rights to the Dash 8 models were bought by Longview Aviation Capital Corporation in 2018 while the C-Series was sold to Airbus and became the Airbus A220 family which was initially a joint venture between Bombardier and Airbus but Bombardier sold their stake in February this year.
The sale of its final aircraft range, the CRJ, leaves Bombardier Aviation clear to focus on their highly succesful private jet range included the Challenger and Global Express models.
The sale sees Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd take control of the maintenance, support, refurbishment, marketing, and sales activities for the CRJ Series aircraft including the related services and support network which is primarily located in Montreal and Toronto in Canada as well as the type certificates of the models.
